ZWI
Discovering love for electronic music whilst in the UK, Zwi is an avid digger influenced by sounds of old school tech house, breakbeat, garage and techno . Expect a blend of dark and groovy.
Park:ING
Raised up by Saigon air, having spent some years away, he was only inspired to start DJ-ing once he had relocated back to his home, where he found he grew alongside the city’s burgeoning music scene. He started off through playing at small house parties, with his name quickly grown into a frequence in the local scene. This led him to begin organizing events with friends, most notably GenderFunk party series in Saigon. Bringing diversity to the decks, Park:ING's approach to music is eclectic, and adds a sense of refreshment to his environment. He delivers party spirit through his multi-genre approach, but always manages to stay true to his disco and old-school house foundations.
KHOI MAI
Saigon brewed Khoi Mai, after traveled near and far, relocated in his home country since 2018 and has been one of a key players in Hanoi ever since. As one of Savage crew members, Khoi represents the fun and light hearted attitude with eclectic selection and dreamy percussive sound. Moving smoothly between genres, Khoi puts his personality and influences in use for many dance floors with constant grooves, surprises and delights.
OUISSAM
It would be wrong to start talking about where Ouissam Mokretar comes from - after a decade in Asia, he’s now something of a regional entity that has managed to change the dance music scene wherever he has laid down roots. His approach to a dance floor is as simple as it is intuitive and elegant: nothing that can make a room shudder with joy is barred from his selections. As the founder of Hong Kong’s Cliche Records, he was one of the first in that city to cultivate a disco - house - techno synt hesis that shifted the understanding of what could be danced to there. He went on to create the magnetic Homesick and Fragrant Harbor labels, before suddenly setting his sights on Hanoi in Vietnam, where he has established the dance mecca Savage where he r uns the monthly queer night Snug. And on top of all that, he found time to curate the coveted Equation festival, now entering its second year.
RIFAIN
Rifain’s sound is powered by an experimentalism that twists and turns through varied genres with a consistency that cloaks it in its own unique nature.
His approach is one of absorption and redefinition, elegantly mixing seemingly divergent elements to guide a dancefloor into deep, downbeat darkness or an opaque dreamscape before rousing it into primal collective movement through fresh tribal energy.
All being told, his sound is hard for even him to describe, as it’s in constant flux and evolution, intuitively reflecting setting and situation and the influences that happen to be inspiring him.
As its main booker and cofounder, Rifain is a key figure of Savage nightclub in Hanoi, which over the last few years has turned into a key node of Asia’s underground club circuit. He also runs his own monthly night at the club - Slow Beats Disco - which despite its name is less focused on a specific genre or bpm, but more on a collective intimacy and adventurous sonic exploration with delicacy at its core. Guests have included John Talabot, Zozo, nd_baumecker, Samo DJ and Dr Rubinstein, as well as many of the regions’ other talented players.
He is also closely involved with Hanoi’s Equation Festival, which had its first installment in 2017. However, his involvement with music in the region goes further back, having co- founded booking agency Cliché Records in Hong Kong, which became a game-changer for electronic music in Asia.
Drawing on his own passion for fresh sounds, Rifain also helped to form Fragrant Harbour Sound System, a record label that has brought out EPs from figures such as General Ludd, Fulbert and Renart, LPZ, Broccoli Brothers, as well as sub-label Homesick, which has produced some great edits with the participation of Marquis Hawkes, Borrowed Identity, Mister Ho, Powder and Jonathan Kusuma
MIYA
Mother of Cliché Asia, Savage Club co - founder, Miya is probably the most recognizable member of the Fragrant Harbour Soundsystem.
Radiating energy and pure happiness wether she is behind the decks or on the dancefloor Miya isn’t going to restrict herself to a genre of music but will simply pick up the right tracks that will bring her audience exactly where she intends them to go along her journey
